VGuard MD caught off guard by CITU tactics

KOCHI: Even as the CPM and its trade union have adopted a stand against ‘Nokkukooli,’ VGuard managing director Kochouseph Chittilappilly had to don the role of a headload worker as the CITU members stopped his employees from unloading goods at the VStar godown here on Wednesday. But, the efforts by Kochouseph Chittilappilly turned futile as the CITU men were not ready for a compromise.
The issue began on Monday, when the CITU members prevented the company employees from unloading goods brought to VStar godown.
The union members claimed that the company employees cannot be allowed to unload the goods, following which the unloading was stopped.
Later on Wednesday, the employees of VStar, resumed unloading, but the CITU workers blocked them again. As there developed a row, Kochouseph Chittilappilly arrived at the spot.
“Though he asked the CITU members to allow our employees to unload the goods, the union members were not ready to budge,” Vaidyanathan, general manager, VStar, said.
“Eleven of our members have labour card and so they are eligible to unload the goods. But, the union leaders did not allow our employees to do the job,” he said.
As the repeated efforts to solve the issue failed, Kochouseph himself got onto the lorry and unloaded a few bundles of goods. But, when the company employees tried to carry the unloaded bundles into the godown, the CITU workers allegedly manhandled them.
Then the police came and brought in some other labourers to unload the goods. Though the company had earlier filed a complaint in this regard, no action has been taken against the union members, the company officials said.
However, the CITU district leadership said they were unaware of such an incident.
